Morbidity and Mortality Rounds are coming back to CDH!
Next rounds:
Esophageal Rupture
Presented by Marilyn Vanderputten and others
12 July 2022, 730pm, zoom (see below)
Preamble:
M&M Rounds might be more aptly named, L&L Rounds (Love and Learn Rounds).
The intention of these rounds is to support each to learn from adverse outcomes and near misses.
As a general rule, 95% of adverse outcomes are related to system problems, rather than individual performance issues.
These rounds are an opportunity for us to give direct feedback to the health authority about the quality and safety or our system.
Rounds are confidential, providers and patients are not to be named.
Section 51 of the BC Evidence Act prohibits the disclosure of information and documentation collected as part of a hospital's quality of care review.
Compensation and CME credits:
CDMS will pay 1hr session time for attendance plus up to $50 reimbursement for food.
M&M rounds can be claimed as non-accredited CME credits.
We hope you can attend! We are planning to host these rounds q 2 months.
Sincerely,
Your CDH medical leads

MSA JCC Sessional Rate Adjustment
The Physician Services Committee has approved that physicians of both groups - family and specialist physicians - who participate in quality and system improvement activities on behalf of the Joint Clinical Committees will be compensated at the same rate of $158.97 per hour for their participation, retroactive to April 1, 2019.
New Visitor Policy: A patient centered approach that recognizes:
1. Family members are essential partners in care and play an important role in well-being, comfort, quality of life, healing and/or recovery.
2. While we need to limit visits as an important precaution to ensure the safety of all, the risks of loneliness and isolation must be considered, as well as the potential impacts on Indigenous people and their families who may have past experiences of racism and discrimination in health care environments.
3. We must balance the need for safety with the need for connection between individuals and their families; our goal is to implement a fair and consistent approach to essential visit decision making across all care settings.
The attached form can help guide staff and physicians through this process.

Special thanks to the CDMS, Beaver House Fudge and The Fishbowl Café!
For anyone who has ever worked within Cowichan you will know that the effective relationships between Physicians and Staff of collegiality and collaboration is palpable. This was highlighted again on the 14TH Sept when, even on a rainy day, the kindness and care that the team has for each other shone through! The staff at Cowichan District Hospital received a special gift of appreciation. The Cowichan District Medical Society (CDMS) along with Beaver House Fudge who is a local business in the Cowichan Valley and The Fishbowl Café, another local business brought sweet joy to the site.
Staff were able to choose from a few different flavours of fudge and also received a card for a free 16oz beverage at The Fishbowl Café. The CDMS wanted to let staff know they were grateful for their service and their ability to work effectively together in order to serve the Community.
You can’t get sweeter than fudge and a coffee or hot chocolate and the staff very much appreciated the generosity of the society and the extension of care from both the community businesses and the society.
