Speaker bio: Dr. Tandi Wilkinson is a rural family physician currently working in Nelson, BC, with extensive experience in rural and remote settings, including indigenous communities. She is also a Core team member and the medical lead of the Thriving project with RCCbc. Her interests include creating more opportunities for rural physicians to access wellness experiences.

Speaker bio: Dr. Amanda Hill has run a general geriatrics practice with work in acute care and in the community. Specifically, Dr. Hill runs a general geriatric clinic and clinics in the perioperative assessment at St Paul’s Hospital. Some of her interests include Frailty and perioperative assessment as well as dementia and its impact on families.

Speaker bio: Dr Melanie Altas is a gynecologist and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at University of British Columbia. She is the Director of the BC Centre for Vulvar Health at Vancouver General Hospital and a Sexual Medicine Consultant at the BC Cancer Agency. Her current clinical practice is dedicated to vulvovaginal conditions, sexual pain disorders and menopause.

CARE Course
The CARE Course is a two day interprofessional learning experience delivered in your local facility with your nurses, physicians and prehospital providers. The course focuses on comprehensive rural emergency care including airway management, trauma care, cardiac care, emergency obstetrics, pediatrics and neonatal care.
The course is entirely practical. There are no didactic sessions. Over the two days, ~24 participants rotate through 32 hands-on learning stations equally divided between skill stations and high-fidelity scenarios. Find the full description here (PDF).

(JSC) is providing one-time funding through RCCbc’s REAP program to facilitate Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS) training for rural BC physicians. $500 bursaries are being made available to specialists and GPs for this training.
