Rural Rounds are resuming this fall and registration is now open. 
Please note the fall sessions of these rounds are free. 
The topics and registration links are provided below (or click on button above).

Please feel free to distribute to your community physicians. 

Overview: Rural Rounds provides rural healthcare providers with up-to-date and relevant medical education through interactive Zoom presentations. Sessions are once a month from September to June and feature speakers from across the province.
Target Audience: Healthcare providers working in and supporting rural communities.

Education Real-Time Virtual Supports (RTVS) provide on-demand consultation to support patient care and rural healthcare collaboration. Optimizing Communication for Excellence

Effective communication between physicians, patients, colleagues and staff has been proven to enhance our healthcare system, improve outcomes and lead to better patient and healthcare practitioner satisfaction. The Optimizing Communication for Excellence course begins with a one-day workshop, in which participants learn a simple 4-stage framework to navigate difficult conversations. After the workshop, you’ll benefit from a 30-minute personalized coaching call included as part of the course. To support your ongoing learning and practice, you’ll have opportunities to share with peers and program facilitators your insights, successes and challenges in a safe and positive environment. Discover new approaches to speaking with patients and colleagues.

Skills Gained: 
  • Apply an evidence-based model to enhance communication skills for healthcare providers.
  • Recognize common challenging communication patterns that can arise in healthcare-related environments and relationships.
  • Identify and apply the qualities of a learning conversation for the purpose of effective communication with patients and colleagues.
  • Practice applying a structured communication approach to clinically relevant scenarios and cases, utilizing peer and facilitator feedback.
  • Identify and commit to incorporating newly-honed communication skills in one’s own professional environment for the purpose of improved pated and physician/self-satisfaction.

Airway Mannequin Loans
A flexible provincial airway mannequin rental service to help support rural health care teams. You can use these with your team to run drills and practice important airway mannequin skills! The loan includes one adult, one pediatric, and one infant mannequin.
HOW DOES THE LOAN SERVICE WORK?
  1. Let us know you're interested in a loan by emailing our team at rural.cpd@ubc.ca
  2. We will connect with you and confirm the details. Our standard rental period is 14 days, but if you'd like to keep your loan for longer please let us know and there may be some flexibility based on availability.
  3. We will prepare to ship the rental equipment to your community with some accompanying educational materials

Fast Evidence

FAST EVIDENCE begins with a half‐day, interactive course that teaches physicians how to conduct effective internet searches in order to find credible and evidence‐based medical information from a variety of databases and other credible online sources. Designed for a small group of up to 12 learners, the course is facilitated by two CPSBC Librarians who provide learners with hands‐on learning support in a computer lab setting. To support ongoing learning and application, this program also involves post-program activities, including reflection and coaching sessions following the live workshop.

Skills Gained: 
  • Conduct efficient and refined literature searches
  • Apply search tools to find reliable health information and evidence-bases medical literature (e.g. MEDLINE, point of care tools, ebooks, and multimedia)
  • Obtain the full-text of journcal articles through electronic resources or document delivery
  • Find authoritative patient and drug information

Target Audience: Physicians and residents practicing in rural BC.
Overview: CAMP fosters peer support in rural practitioner networks to improve your practice, increase your confidence, and connect you to other physicians. Coach/mentors provide support in a wide variety of areas including transitions in practice, emergency medicine, personal wellness and more.
